Argentine Truckers Union Reaches Wage Increase Agreement

The Truck Drivers' Union, led by Hugo Moyano, closed this Friday a collective bargaining round that was less demanding than anticipated. Moyano had previously stated that he did not want quarterly increases and demanded an 8% compensation for the inflationary rise, demands that were outside the official wage guideline. Nevertheless, he signed an agreement with business chambers that aligns with the policy of the Ministry of Economy: it will be in force for a semester, and the agreed figures remain below inflation, according to the Argentine News Agency. The agreement provides for a total salary increase of 10.5% for the March-August semester, with a review in September. The increase will be applied as follows: 2% in March; 1.8% in April; 1.7% in May; 1.6% in June; 1.5% in July; and 1.5% in August. Additionally, a non-remunerative payment of $50,000 for March is included. A monthly prize for attendance and punctuality was also agreed upon, only for the Clearing and Postal Cargo and Logistics Operations branches, which will begin to be paid from April and can be absorbed by what the companies pay. Lastly, there was an improvement in the business contribution to the social work of the Truck Drivers' Union, which increased from $22,000 to $25,000 per worker per month.
